Texas Man Awaits Extradition to Collier County for Sexual Cyber Crime Charge

A 50-year-old Texas man faces felony charges in Florida after he allegedly solicited sex from a Collier County undercover detective posing as a 13-year-old girl online and performed sex acts in front of a webcam. He is being held without bond in the Tarrant County Jail in Fort Worth, Texas, awaiting extradition to Naples, Florida.

The man was arrested on Tuesday at his home in Fort Worth, Texas on a Collier County warrant. He was charged with four counts of lewd and lascivious exhibition via webcam and one count of online solicitation for sex.

The man supposedly chatted with the undercover detective posing as a 13-year-old girl several times throughout February and March of this year. During the chats, the man allegedly performed sex acts in front of a webcam and asked for sex.

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office obtained a warrant for the man’s arrest on Monday and the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office in Texas searched the man’s home on Tuesday and arrested him on the Collier County warrant.

Two computers were taken from the man’s home. The Collier County Sheriff’s Office will conduct a forensic analysis of the computers. Detectives reported that the investigation is ongoing.

Extradition in Florida is based upon crimes committed by fugitives across state lines. The process of extradition is when one state transports a suspected criminal to another state to face criminal charges or serve a sentence imposed by that state. Under Florida ‘s Uniform Criminal Extradition Act and Florida Penal Code Section, law enforcement agents can issue a warrant for extradition so that the suspect can be detained. Following the arrest, the suspect is obligated to return to the state he or she is wanted in and face the criminal charges brought against them. There is a series of Florida legal judicial process that must take place to ensure the validity of the extradition, which can take months to process, leaving the suspected criminal in jail for however long the process takes.
