Oviedo Police Officer Facing Child Molestation Charges

An Oviedo police officer who was taken into custody Sunday on child molestation charges was denied bond in a first appearance at the Seminole County Jail Monday afternoon.

The 42-year-old faces six counts of lewd and lascivious molestation of a child between the ages of 12 and 16 and one count of lewd and lascivious molestation of a child under 12 years old.

The accused is a 15-year veteran of the police department and allegedly disclosed to a relative that he inappropriately touched another female family member “in her bed and has fondled and groped her breasts,” according to his arrest affidavit.

The man has been placed on administrative leave without pay during the course of the investigation.

His arraignment is scheduled for Sept. 25 at the Seminole County courthouse.

The penalties for a conviction for a sex crime are incredibly high. For someone convicted of child molestation, there is no opportunity for parole or probation.
