Mom Pleads Guilty to Producing Homemade Child Pornography for a Man She Met Online

A 31-year-old woman pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Fort Myers to taking nude pictures of herself and her children performing sex acts and sending them to a man she thought was a therapist through the single parent’s dating web site singleparentmeetup.com. She pleaded guilty on July 8 to possessing, producing and transporting child pornography.

The woman claims she sent compromising photos to a man online who allegedly claimed to be a child therapist who encouraged woman to sexually abuse their own children for mental healing purposes.

The woman’s son and daughter were supposedly 13 and 9 when the pictures were snapped.

The man posing as a therapist supposedly pleaded guilty to federal charges in February for persuading numerous women from multiple states into e-mailing him child porn. He will appear in court in Detroit in August and possibly faces life in prison. It was reported that the man is actually a car salesman from Michigan.

There is substantial prison time at stake if you are found guilty of possessing, producing or transmitting child pornography. The mere possession of child porn is a third-degree felony punishable by up to five years in prison for every image you are caught with. Law enforcement can have the power to take your computer, search your home and belongings, obtain records from your Internet provider as well as recover information from your hard drive that you may have thought you hid or deleted. For distributing child porn, a mandatory minimum of five years in prison must be served if convicted. Producing child pornography carries penalties of up to life in prison; participating in the exploitation of a child is considered a high felony in the state of Florida.

Sometimes in sex crimes cases, a plea negotiation can be an important component for those charged with serious child pornography crimes. A plea bargain may result in a guilty plea for a lesser crime while a more severe offense is dropped. It could also amount to an agreement for counseling or psychiatric treatment along with a lesser sentence. A successful plea bargain in Florida depends on a variety of factors and all cases are unique in what approach to take.
