Judge Orders No Bond for the Orange County Man Accused of Performing a Sex Act at a Christian Radio Station
An Orange County, FL Senior Circuit Court Judge ordered the homeless man accused of performing a sex act at a local Christian radio station to remain in jail with no bond on Tuesday. He faces charges of sexual battery, burglary and battery.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, Orange County Sherriff’s investigators claim that the homeless man entered La Voix Evangelique D’Orlando radio station uninvited Monday morning and performed a sex act in front of the radio host during a live 6 a.m. broadcast.
The man allegedly tried to rape the broadcaster. She led the man outside and locked herself into her car. He returned inside the station and supposedly stole items from the woman’s purse and then fled the scene.
A radio show listener heard the alleged attack and called 911. Police later arrested the homeless man who has a lengthy criminal record.
In 2002 he was accused of threatening someone with violence and criminal mischief. In 2003, he was convicted of burglary. He was convicted of grand theft in 2007 and indecent exposure in 2008 and 2009. He was also convicted of frequenting a brothel and resisting an officer in 2009. In 2010 he was convicted of trespassing and stalking.
Sexual battery in Florida generally covers any area not covered by rape statutes, like unwanted groping or fondling. Sexual battery is often referred to as touching of a sexual nature or penetration without consent of the other party. Different from a rape charge, sexual battery can be committed without penetration. The actual touching of another individual for sexual gratification can meet the criteria for a sexual battery charge.
A sexual battery charge is a felony that can range from third degree to a life offense. Along with lengthy prison time, sexual battery convictions can lead to designation as a sex offender or sex predator. As a registered sex offender or sex predator, there are many probation conditions that you must meet that can make once simple life choices extremely hard, such as not being able to live within 1000 feet of a school, church, pre-school, playground or anywhere else children gather. With sex offender registries available to the public, it is most likely that your neighbors will be able to identify you which could bring about unwanted troubles. Sexual battery is a severe offense in the eyes of Florida law and remains to be one of the most harshly prosecuted sex crimes.
