Correctional Officer in Miami DADE Accused of Sexual Battery

A Florida Department of Corrections officer was arrested by Miami-Dade police and charged with sexual battery on Friday, according to authorities.

FDC contacted police after the allegation was made and was taking steps to terminate the officer’s employment. FDC also removed the officer from any contact with inmates.

The officer has been accused of an alleged crime against a female inmate in a closet at the Miami-Dade County Women’s Detention Center.

Miami-Dade police are leading a criminal investigation and FDC is conducting a separate administrative investigation into the officer.

It will be interesting to see how this case plays out. It is likely that prosecutors will be doing everything in their power to make an example out of this officer, regardless of his innocence.
