A 26-year-old West Boca man was arrested by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s office Wednesday for allegedly raping a woman he had been dating for about a month.
According to reports, the man was arrested following an investigation into accusations made by the alleged victim that the man had sexually battered and abused her.
The woman claims she went to the man’s home to talk to him, but a violent argument apparently followed.
The woman told police that during the alleged argument the man choked her, took her car keys and cell phone and told her she was “not going anywhere.”
The man is accused of grabbing the woman by the throat and raping her.
The woman told detectives that the man placed a pillow over her face while choking her and wrapped his fist in a belt and punched her arms, back and legs.
The man is facing charges of sexual battery, domestic battery by strangulation and false imprisonment.
Sexual battery, often referred to as rape, is a very serious offense in Florida. When it comes to sexual situations, sometimes it can be easy to misinterpret someone. Unfortunately, a simple misunderstanding during a sexual encounter can be classified as a sex crime. Since the crime of sexual battery is a sex crime, the consequences of a conviction can lead to lengthy prison terms and mandatory registration as a sex offender for the rest if your life.
Innocent people are often charged with sex crimes due to misunderstandings. Sometimes alcohol can play a role in sexual mix-ups, errors or confusions, causing someone to agree to certain things that they end up regretting later. This regret can easily turn into sexual battery accusations, even if at the time the person consented to the sexual activity in question. These accusations can quickly escalate into felony sexual battery charges. When this happens, your future and reputation are on the line, so it is paramount to the success of your case to contact a sex crimes defense lawyer that can mount an aggressive line of defense attacking the validity of the charges against you.
Sexual battery charges can lead to a lifetime of problems. Because of this, it is vital to have a sex crimes defense attorney in your corner fighting to have the charges against you reduced. The Florida Sex Crimes Attorneys at Whittel & Melton understand the delicate nature of these charges and the unnecessary labeling and social stigmas that are attached to a sex crime conviction. The public tends to view anyone charged with a sex crime as guilty, even if they are found not guilty at trial.
