A Wellington Boys and Girls club staff member was arrested Wednesday for sexual assault and is accused of impregnating a 16-year-old girl, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
The girl apparently spoke with detectives on Monday and claims she met the 32-year-old Royal Palm Beach man while working as a volunteer at the club.
The two allegedly had sex in the man’s car twice and once in the girl’s home, according to the report.
The girl told police that in May she began to feel sick. She asked the man to purchase her a pregnancy test and that’s when she learned she was pregnant and that the accused is the father.
The man talked with detectives on Wednesday and was arrested. He faces three sexual assault charges and is being held in Palm Beach County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bail.
Being accused of sexual assault in Palm Beach County is a grave matter. The state of Florida has some of the strictest penalties for those convicted of sex crimes, requiring those to remain a registered sex offender, possibly for life. This means that anyone can retrieve your name, picture and other information from the state’s website. The burden of being a registered sex offender will follow you long after you have served your prison sentence and satisfied any other requirements.
It is very important to understand that just because you have been accused of sexual assault, this does not automatically mean you are guilty. Most sexual assault cases are very fact-specific and must be handled suitably. These cases tend to be emotionally and factually complicated, which is why every detail of the case must be thoroughly investigated in order to identify any inconsistencies or weaknesses on the prosecution’s side.
