A Duval County high school teacher is accused of having inappropriate sexual conduct with a teenager.
The 26-year-old Neptune Beach man was arrested Wednesday on a charge of unlawful sexual activity with a minor, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
The alleged victim is 16 or 17 years old, according to reports.
The teacher has been released on $35,000 bond.
The Sheriff’s Office claims the incident happened at the school last October. However, the alleged victim did not report any misconduct until last week, and the investigation started with the Department of Children and Families.
The Duval County school district said the man has been removed from the classroom, pending the investigation.
Allegations of criminal sexual activity are damaging for anyone, but for teachers they can be especially devastating. Sex crimes accusation will lead to the immediate suspension of a person’s teaching license and could possibly result in an immediate suspension or termination of his or her position as a teacher.
