A 22-year-old Inverness man was recently arrested and charged with having sex with a 12-year-old girl.
The man was arrested Monday and is facing lewd and lascivious battery charges.
According to the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, the man allegedly admitted to having sex with the girl and to knowing how old she was when questioned by deputies.
Deputies believe the girl has been sneaking out of her house to meet the man since May.
The girl’s mother contacted officials in mid June when she saw her daughter and the man together in the neighborhood, according to reports. She apparently told police she was suspicious of their relationship and said that after speaking to her daughter about it, the 12-year-old told her she had been meeting with the man and having sex with him.
The man has been jailed with bond set at $10,000.
