Melbourne, FL undercover police officers carried out round two of a prostitution sting targeting men seeking sex along the U.S. 1 corridor in Brevard County. Police charged four men, ranging in age from 27 to 77 years old, with solicitation of prostitution carried out from 5 p.m. Wednesday night to midnight Thursday.
Melbourne Police Special Operations Unit detail arrested a total of 11 people in the two day time period.
Three suspects were taken into custody on drug charges for the sale of cocaine. Two of the three were also charged with selling Oxycodone.
The first round of the operation on Tuesday resulted in the arrests of four suspected prostitutes along the U.S. 1 corridor in north and south Melbourne.
For these cases the State will most likely be seeking convictions for prostitution and sex trafficking. Even just verbally agreeing to or offering sexual activity for compensation is considered a crime, regardless of follow through. Depending on the actual charges brought against the individuals involved and their backgrounds, a prostitution conviction could result in state prison sentences of 5 to 15 years.
